Our Mission
The Mission of the Foundation for End-of-Life Care is to support end-of-life services, including hospice, bereavement care, and community education.
The goal of this foundation is to make sure that Juneau residents and our neighbors in nearby communities continue to have hospice services available to them and understand how to make informed decisions about end-of-life wishes.

Please save the date for an important panel on healing from grief
Please save September 21, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a free reception and talk by Dr. Lani Leary at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Center (JAHC), followed by a panel discussion by local experts. Dr. Leary has more than 25 years of experience working with chronically ill, dying, and bereaved clients. She served as the director of mental health services at Whitman Walker AIDS clinic, as a professor of Death Studies at George Mason University, and as a researcher at the National Cancer Institute of NIH. She also garners wisdom from her personal experience—her mother's death when she was a child, her father's death from cancer, her own profound near-death experience—and has sat with over 500 people as they died. Foundation Supports BRH Home health & Hospice Program
Bartlett Regional Hospice Home Health and Hospice Receives Foundation Grant
Bartlett Regional Hospital announced on July 24, 2026, that the Foundation for End of Life Care, Inc., provided a $21,643 grant to support critical equipment and staff training needs for home health and hospice patients and families. According to Bartlett Regional Hospital Controller Andrew Erikson, “Until recently, Home Health and Hospice at Bartlett relied on an external durable medical equipment distributor to provide essential equipment for home health and hospice patients. Unfortunately, this distributor is no longer able to provide these services, creating an immediate and significant gap in our ability to meet patient needs in a timely and dependable manner.” “When Bartlett reached out to us and we became aware of the need,” said Foundation for End of Life Care Board President Bruce Weyhrauch, “the Foundation Board unanimously voted to grant the hospital funds to purchase the equipment needed for the comfort and safety of home health and hospice patients. We also included in our grant additional funds to provide training and education for hospice staff on the proper use, handling, and maintenance of that equipment.” Maintaining uninterrupted access to critical medical equipment for hospice patients is an important part of the Foundation’s mission, Weyhrauch said, “so funding the program’s grant request was totally in line with our mission and goals.”
Foundation awards grants to Southeast Hospices
The Foundation for End of Life Care recently announced new grant recipients, including four volunteer hospice and home care organizations: Sitka Braveheart Volunteers, Hospice of Wrangell, Hospice of Haines and Gustavus Helping Hands. Read more...
